The Optimal Retinal Exam
The Optomap Retinal Exam is a revolutionary technology that allow us to take a scan of the retina in less than a second. The images taken from the optomap, can be viewed in the exam room and provide our physicians with valuable information. These scans aid in the diagnosis macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, glaucoma and other diseases. In many cases, these scans can reveal problems that can go unnoticed with normal dilation.
An added benefit...you don't have to be dilated! No stinging drops, sensitivity to light, or blurry vision for the rest of the day.
Focusing on Glaucoma
VISUAL FIELD
A visual field test is a method of measuring an individual's entire scope of vision, that is their central and peripheral (side) vision. Visual field testing actually maps the visual fields of each eye individually. Visual field testing is most frequently used to detect any signs of glaucoma damage to the optic nerve. In addition, visual field tests are useful for detection of central or peripheral retinal disease, eyelid conditions such as ptosis or drooping, optic nerve disease, and diseases affecting the visual pathways within the brain. The visual pathways carry information from the eye to the visual or occipital cortex in the brain, where this information is processed into vision.
OCT
Ocular Coherence Testing (OCT) is used as a diagnostic device to aid in the detection and management of ocular diseases including, but not limited to, macular holes, cystoid macular edema, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma.
